How it Works
The Old Brooklyn Connected website, found here at oldbrooklynconnected.com, is a revolutionary community portal designed to bring hyperlocal news, information, and resources to the neighborhoods of Old Brooklyn and Brooklyn Centre.
The Old Brooklyn Connected Wi-Fi will create a continuous wireless internet network throughout Ward 13 of Cleveland, covering a majority of the Old Brooklyn neighborhood. Access points are attached to street lights which in turn communicate with 8 distinct nodes throughout Ward 13. The nodes are dispersed, and most often are located on the tops of tall buildings. Examples of node locations are Estabrook Recreation Center, MetroHealth’s Senior Health & Wellness Center , and Rhodes High School.
- Access Points – These will be hung on street lights throughout Ward 13 and will provide the signal for Old Brooklyn Connected Wi-Fi
- Desktop Computer – Desktops will be able to access the Old Brooklyn Connected WiFi if they are connected to a CPE or have a wireless card. Due to variations in construction materials and techniques, indoor signal strengths will vary. Old Brooklyn Connected recommends the use of a CPE for high-quality indoors service.
- Smart Phone/Handheld Device – Wi-Fi capable smart phones and handheld devices can be used on the Old Brooklyn Connected Wi-Fi.
- Laptop Computer – Wi-Fi ready laptop computers are ready to use outdoors. Due to varying construction materials and techniques, indoor signal strengths will vary. Old Brooklyn Connected recommends the use of a CPE for high-quality indoors service.
(A CPE is a “wireless modem” or antenna that captures an outdoor Wi-Fi signal and brings it indoors.)
