Be green and save some green on St. Patrick’s Day at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, volunteers will be collecting recyclable materials on the Zoo’s Ticket Plaza including cell phones, aluminum cans (one pound minimum), pairs of athletic shoes and cookware (pots and pans). Guests who bring any of these items will receive a $2 discount (good that day only) off the already reduced winter admission rates, making tickets just $6.25 for adults or $3.25 for children ages 2 to 11. Limit one discount per person.
Proceeds from the aluminum can collection will support the Zoo’s Cans for Conservation program which helps fund conservation efforts locally and around the world. Shoes and cookware are recycled or reused by various organizations.
Cell phones will either be refurbished and reused, or recycled by an EPA approved recycler. The Zoo has collected more than 4,000 cell phones since it started recycling them in 2005.
The Zoo accepts many other recyclable materials every day inside the Exhibition Hall near the main gate including compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), cell phones, rechargeable cell phone batteries and ink jet and toner cartridges.
Guests may also bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail and bagged shredded paper to the green and yellow Abitibi-Bowater Paper Retriever bins in the Hippo Parking Lot behind The RainForest.
Northeast Ohio’s most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. From November 1 through March 31, 2013, admission is discounted to $8.25 per person, $5.25 for kids ages 2 to 11 and is free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480.
